Peter Cosgrove Director of Technology with Cpl spoke at the Dublin Web Summit on the challenges that the business community currently face with regard to their IT strategy. There was over 150 in attendance at the Developer Stage and the conference itself expects to have 4000 attendees over the two day event. The main context of the presentation was the changing role of the CTO in business and the need to be more at the centre of the business as technology could be the major game-changer.
Peter explained how this currently is not happening citing that only 23% of CTOs were currently reporting into the CEO as opposed to practically all CFOS. He also highlighted how important it was to use the ubiquity of consumer technology and mobile devices to their advantage. The IT team can be more visible and begin to talk more to the business.
Finally he underlined the critical importance of finding the right talent not just the best talent – knowing whether you need innovators or technologists who can spot trends and be the early adopters.
