Ireland continues to compete very favourably for FDI investment. Our green shores
are well-recognised by multi-nationals as representing an attractive, competitive
and highly effective location in which to invest and many large multinationals and
emerging companies have chosen to relocate their headquarters or European Shared
Services Centres on Irish soil. This is very encouraging from a macro-economic perspective
and consequently, it is increasing the demand for experienced senior and executive
management professionals across a wide range of sectors and roles.
With payroll typically representing up to 60% of business costs we see pay scales
at all levels come under greater scrutiny. This is particularly evident at the Executive
and Director level where clear value and leadership is being demanded across every
sector as companies have implemented salary reductions, salary caps and bonus freezes
over the past couple of years. That said, there is a heightened level of awareness
amongst our clients as to the value and impact of leadership and talent in driving
competitive advantage and motivating and retaining a winning leadership team is
a key differentiator in challenging times. In a Cpl survey across senior HR professionals
from around the country, we found that almost 80% of businesses didn’t have any
talent metrics for their upper management; a trend that we feel is likely to change
over the next 12 months and will be reflected in how compensation structure and
performance based reward is constructed into 2013.
