Description:
R&D Mechanical Engineering Manager
In partnership with its client, Kenny-Whelan is currently seeking a R&D Mechanical Engineering Manager to work for their client in the Co. Galway area. To ensure that the mechanical project groups deliver a robust, engineered product(s) on time and within budget that meets or exceeds the customer requirements and corporate internal requirements and expectations.
Job Responsibilities:
· Resource management across all group projects; identifying peaks and troughs in scheduled work and individual's capacity and capabilities
· Identify and resolving resource issues across their project scope.
· Identify, document and communicate the individual project scope across the project group.
· Feature by phase documentation, tracking and communication within the project teams.
· Support design standardisation across projects - including part count reduction, reuse, geometrical rules, procedures and best practice as documented and directed by the technical manager.
· Ensure robust procedures are implemented and continuously improved in line with lessons learnt. As directed by the mechanical technical manager
· Track and escalate issues related to cost targets and management.
· Management of requirements across projects from phase 1 to phase 4b
· Daily tracking and management of timelines as set and agreed by the lead engineers and the project team
· Support in preparing, organising and participating in design reviews across projects and appropriate management of project issues resulting from meetings inc. escalation of issues as necessary
· Supporting RFQ responses as requested.
· Ensure quality of CAD and drawings is maintained and in line with the direction of the technical manager
· Organise, participate and administer a daily meeting with all direct reports. Including appropriate management of issues arising from this meeting.
· Support the project leads when interfacing with the internal team or within the customer chain.
· Plan and communicate technician needs to current engineering manager.
· Organise and execute the appropriate yearly and mid yearly review for all direct reports - in a timeline set and agreed by HR and department manager.
· Participate and input into recruitment decisions where appropriate.
· General HR management of designated direct reports including but not limited to sickness, holidays, grievances, training etc.
· Budget management
Skills, Abilities and Education
· 8 years recent relevant industrial experience
· An Engineering Degree/ Masters in a relevant area e.g. Mechanical Engineering
· Experience in the automotive industry an advantage
· Experience within a multi disciplinary projects environment
· Experience Managing a professional team
· Ability to deliver technical projects on time and within budget
· Excellent team player with leadership ability
· Excellent people management skills
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
· Confident, articulate, self motivated, determined, energetic
· Experience with vision products, automotive electronics
· A mindset of continuous improvement
