Vision Technology & Expertise Group Research Engineer
In partnership with its client, Kenny-Whelan is currently seeking a Vision Technology & Expertise Group Engineer to work on Optics, Imagers, Algorithm Development, Concept Studies, Benchmarking, Research, International Standards & Communications, new product activities & IP management. This position is located in Co. Galway and reports to the team leader for the vision group.
Job Responsibilities:
- Project Research Responsibilities for existing and new technologies
- Perform PC-based algorithmic Image Signal Processing development for projects, including both scene viewing and machine vision applications
- Perform detailed tests and carry out performance analysis on ISP algorithms to facilitate algorithm enhancement
- Develop and adapt ISP algorithms with a view to implementation on embedded DSP platforms with associated CPU and memory bandwidth limitations
- Support Project Working Groups and Concept Studies where directed
- Support external research activities with Universities and other 3rd party research groups:
- Perform research into new video technology, ideas, approaches, etc. to ensure the organisation remains abreast of all leading edge/emerging Vision Technologies
- Keep up to date with new standards and general market information in the Industry
- Work innovatively and creatively within the group with a particular focus on protecting innovation and IP through the patent process
Other Duties
- Represent the company at various Industry Working Groups and at Conferences where directed
- Develop relationships with the relevant Systems architects at our OEM customers with a view to influencing, or responding to, their needs.
- Assist Business Dev. Dept with Feasibility Studies and support RFQ activities as required, including customer and internal requirements review
- Participate in Technology / Supplier / Tool Selection etc. for new development
The successful candidate will be expected to perform different activities from the list, among others, at different times depending on the Group's requirements.
Skills, Abilities and Education
- Degree in Software Engineering, Electronic Engineering or equivalent
- Embedded Software experience; assembly, C, C++ for 8/16/32 bit micro controllers
- Experience with Matlab or equivalent ISP software tools
- Experience with ARM 9 and DSP development (preferably TI DSP's)
- Experience with Advanced Video Processing, Video Encoding/Decoding, Video Compression M-JPEG, MPEG4 and H.264 an advantage
- Experience in Imaging & Optics an advantage
- High degree of innovation and creativity
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- High level of motivation and work ethic with an emphasis on practical, hands-on work
- Automotive experience an advantage
