To make yourself stand out in this market you need to show your willingness to learn and stay up-to-date with trends. Knowing the right programming language at the right time can open a lot of doors for your career.
Based on our experience with employers, which languages and frameworks are in demand in 2015?
Whether you are looking to become a full stack developer or master of back end development, the versatility of Java means it remains the most popular language for developers. Many of the top Computer Science courses across the country are using Java as their foundation language, so it doesn’t look like it will be going anywhere soon. Java works across multiple software platforms and can be used for application development, Android development, server-side web development and it works across multiple software platforms.
PHP is a general purpose scripting language especially suited to web development which can be embedded into an HTML source document. This is a popular choice if you are a designer looking to pick up a new language.
Other languages and platforms that are still in demand are .NET, C#, C++ and Ruby. They all have well established communities which are great for networking and will only enhance your CV.
The android platform has over 85% of market share which is creating a high demand for Java developers with Android SDK experience. Although the iOS platform is lagging behind in the market, organisations are still looking for developers with a strong knowledge of Objective-C as it powers Apple’s operating system. It’s also the language used to write Mac software.
We’re not suggesting you need to learn each of these, or that you should start at the top of the list and work your way down. The key point is that different languages can solve the same problem in different ways. By learning multiple approaches, you can help broaden your outlook and thought process. Making you exactly the kind of developer companies are looking for in 2015 – one that can create solutions and solve problems in any language.
