Production Manager

Role Description

My client is a major food manufacturer based in Co Tyrone. We are currently recruiting a Production Manager to join the operations team.

As a member of the operations team the Production Manager will have full responsibility for leading the operations team within their unit to achieve the performance targets set by the Factory Manager.


The Role

  • Understand the clients Health & Safety Policy, Company Safety Rules and Statutory requirements applying to all operations within the unit.
  • Drive health and safety within the unit delivering the safest factory within the clients group benchmarked against the industry.
  • Full accountability for technical KPIs ensuring that the company standards are maintained while also meeting the customer expectations.
  • Deliver improved production efficiencies, namely output, quality, yield, labour utilisation, packaging and utilities and ensure factory variances are achieved within the specific area.
  • Assist in the implementation of a process that ensures full optimisation of labour utilisation and ensures the reduction of non-attendance, labour turnover and that holiday planning is controlled within the specific area.  
  • Develop, train, coach and motivate the Unit Team and operatives in conjunction with the HR Department, integrating Technical, Engineering, Planning, Learning and Development, Procurement, Process Development and services to create a focused business unit.
  • Complete Team members’ appraisals and provide feedback on their performance on a regular basis.
  • Develop a culture were employee engagement and communication are promoted and actively delivered.
  • Develop and execute a specific unit improvement action plan so as to enhance business performance and become best in industry.   
  • Evaluate, utilise, deploy and embed a range of continuous improvement and lean techniques to deliver best in class operational excellence which can be measured through the financial performance of the factory and in line with Profit Improvement Plans (PIP).  
  • Optimise energy usage, looking at opportunities for energy reduction and carbon footprint reduction.
  • Monitor and control any negative environmental impact arising from the processes within area of responsibility; ensuring that all direct reports and colleagues are briefed and clear in regards to their responsibilities as outlined in the clients Risk Management System Manual.


The Person

  • Proven management and leadership experience within a FMCG manufacturing environment. 
  • Proven people management experience i.e. managing a team through effective use of performance reviews, coaching, training and disciplinary procedures as required.
  • Proven track record of achievement in continuous improvement.
  • Computer literate.
  • Food processing knowledge. 
  • HACCAP experience and or qualification.
