Electromagnetic Compatibility Engineer - Antrim

CPL are delighted to be working alongside one of Northern Irelands leading manufacturing companies in its recruitment for an Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineer.

The Role
As an EMC Engineer in their EMC & RF Approvals Team, you will play a major role in coordinating, advising and directing lab activities. The role primarily focuses on automotive EMC not limited but including Emissions, Immunity and Electro-Static Discharge. The role will consist of the following:

  • Consulting investigations to determine how well their products operate in harsh automotive electrical environments
  • Ensuring they do not emit unacceptable levels of electrical noise.
  • Responsible for the ensuring EMC Pre-Compliance & Investigation lab activities within our state of the art R&D facility, working alongside 200 other engineers.
  • Work with a varied range of both wired and wireless automotive products.
  • Test plan development, design reviews, liaising with external customers, and continuous improvement exercises to develop and enhance capabilities.
  • You will be required to facilitate peer-to-peer coaching within the testing team. Training will be provided to allow the successful candidate to develop in this role.
  • The ability to give insightful design feedback and propose mitigation techniques at concept stage is highly valued.
  • As part of the design process, the successful candidate will apply EMC design knowledge & experience to identify weighted risks at the PCB level. This will then be presented clearly, for design engineers to assess and implement in balance with other development constraints.

EMC testing is performed both at our internal lab and also at customer approved labs.

  • This will include executing hands-on testing, documenting your findings and communicating results to the project stakeholders for internal lab testing.
  • When interacting with external test sites, this will involve writing detailed test plans, reviewing draft results for accuracy, communicating results and liaising with customer EMC experts.
  • Proven attention to detail and diplomacy will be highly valued skills in the suitable candidate.

Personal Specification
Must possess an Honours Degree in Electronics or a similar discipline
3-4 years in Electronics with some EMC exposure
Proven track record of excellent organisational skills and the ability to schedule work independently
Practical use of a wide range of electronic lab equipment (e.g. Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyser, Soldering etc.)


  • The role will involve occasional foreign travel.
