Tax Accountant

Role Description

Specifics of the Role:
Lead VAT compliance process

  • Take ownership of VAT compliance procedures & build on existing UK & ROI VAT knowledge
  • Lead all processes according to our values
  • Ensure Internal controls adequacy for key tax controls

Build effective relationships within the business

  • Liaising with Business Services Organisation (BSO) team on any issues arising
  • Liaising with other departments regarding items for investigation
  • Support tax team as required to prepare responses for local tax authorities
  • Keeps Tax Manager informed on any discrepancies identified or potential difficulties with
  • completion of work
  • Builds a network effectively

Identify efficiency improvements in existing procedures

  • Fully utilise SAP & Excel to streamline and become more efficient
  • Takes initiative in tasks and does not wait to be told

Ensure timeliness and accuracy

  • Fulfil assigned work within agreed deadlines
  • Complete work to a high standard of accuracy

Manage external & internal tax compliance deadlines and month end processes

  • Prepare workings to support CT returns in NI & ROI
  • Manage CT payment on account calculations for NI & ROI
  • Carry out review of domestic VAT returns in NI & ROI
  • Investigate foreign VAT postings to identify irrecoverable VAT and preparation of EVR returns
  • Assist with preparation of SDIL/SSDT returns in NI & ROI
  • Support as required in relation to external audits & preparation of disclosures for statutory accounts
  • Prepare tax workings for annual business plans/rolling estimates
  • Work with BSO on preparation of quarterly tax reporting to group
  • Advise weekly cashflow forecasting of taxes for Treasury
  • Review to identify non-tax deductible items & transfer pricing adjustments to update the ledgers monthly
  • Prepare transfer pricing adjustments & complete balance sheet recs as part of month end processes
  • Support Tax Manager as required in relation to ad hoc tasks (e.g. tax projects, tax authority queries etc)

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) educated to degree level
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant tax experience in practice or in the tax function of a large business
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills
  • Excellent Microsoft Office/Excel skills
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and deal with ad hoc requests
  • Desired Criteria
  • Previous VAT experience is desirable
  • Previous experience within the FMCG sector would be an advantage
  • Previous experience of ERP and SAP
