Project Engineer – Northern Ireland

An excellent opportunity for a Project Engineer to support the Central Engineering team. Reporting to the Senior Project Engineer, this role will be responsible for the delivery of the engineering aspects on allocated projects as part of the engineering programme, including feasibility, design, implementation and resourcing of projects, as well as procurement and vendor and services selection.

The role of the Project Engineer is to scope, plan, implement and commission engineering projects to completion on time and within budget. The Project Engineer will work in close cooperation with the Project Manager. The project will be executed following the companies Project Management Methodology  and utilises the tools to manage and control projects through their lifecycle.

Where applicable, the Project Engineer will be responsible for preparing, managing and controlling all engineering budgets, actual spend and documentation from initiation through to closure. The Project Engineer will also prepare and submit regular updates to both Business Executive and/or Functional Leadership Team (project sponsor) on project progress and status.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Demonstrates leadership in the area of safety. Ensures all project activities associated with any project exceed the appropriate health and safety standards.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all designs meet Kerry standards, requirements and policies and that these are implemented and adhered to prior to implementation.
  • Ensure regional, national and local legislative requirements are met by the project team including the site engineering function and any external services/contractors utilised in the delivery of a project.
  • Responsible for ensuring all infrastructure and/or equipment selected is fit for purpose and fulfils all regional, national and local legislative regulatory requirements in its application on completion or in support of implementation through to the final sign off and including full specification.
  • All projects will be managed and controlled from inception through to completion utilising the companies methodology and tools standard.
  • Responsible for all stages of the engineering aspects of the assigned projects, from evaluation, initiation, manage & control (design, build and test) through to close where possible utilising standardised company models, best practices, and past experience. At all times considering the lifecycle expectation and impact considering such aspects as cost, energy use, environmental and future proofing.
  • Responsible for regular measuring and monitoring of engineering progress at clearly defined milestones ensuring the critical path is known and under control at all times to ensure on time delivery, within budget, and that it meets or exceeds expectations. At all times balancing scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risks.
  • Where changes are necessary managing these through a Change Control procedure ensuring all revisions are documented, signed off and clearly communicated to all stakeholders in an open and timely fashion.
  • Ensure that the project team follows all quality assurance processes, including periodic reviews and transitions.
  • Ensure that the project’s assigned portion of the Business Case planned value is delivered & ensure that the end product fulfils the contract and meets the sponsor's expectations.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years’ experience in a food manufacturing environment and/or good knowledge in Food & Beverage design and Food safety compliance
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Experience of the design and specification for facilities, equipment and processes
  • Knowledge of ISO Design & Drafting Standards within a design & manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of EC Directives relating to equipment and plant operations and safety
  • Experience of main IT packages in use such as Word/Excel/MS Project/ACAD/SAP
  • Budget management including feasibility and delivery
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills
